The Calatrava Cross
On April 27, 1887, the venerable Geneva Manufacture officially registered the Calatrava Cross, which has since become its legally registered trademark. On January 25, 1908, it renewed this registration to include the expression “Croix de Calatrava” as a verbal identifier and identifying element of the brand.
One of the reasons why Jean Adrien Philippe adopted the Calatrava Cross in 1887 (Antoine Norbert de Patek had died ten years earlier) was its ornamental graphic quality and the fact that it was a century-old signature. It is an attractive aesthetic symbol whose beauty has remained intact over time, without giving in to passing fashions.
